Ranch style

Young families may want a home with a second story to accommodate all the bedrooms needed, but a ranch style home can be better for those with older children who may leave the house soon. A ranch style home, with its living space on one floor, may make it easier for you to stay in that home as you get older, and start to experience difficulty with stairs.

If your home will include an outdoor seating area, consider a collapsible window wall; this is a wall that rolls directly into an adjoining wall, opening up that outdoor space. You also won't have the look of folded doors cluttering up the space.

Even if these areas are smaller than regulation spaces, they can still allow you to enjoy your favourite sport year-round, and without having to leave home!

Reading nook

If you're an avid reader, working with a home builder allows you to add a specific spot in the home where you'll enjoy your latest book. This might mean extending the master bedroom so you can include an electric fireplace and small bookcase, or adding an actual library with space for seating near the room's windows.

An art wall

If you love to paint or take photographs, or collect artwork, work with a home builder to create a space to show off your pieces. An art wall is a wall that is purposely set away from the main seating area of a room, or located in the foyer, and is without windows that would interfere with the placement of your art or photographs. This wall can allow you to display those pieces without having to work them around furniture and other pieces.
